16th Annual Alabama Writers Symposium

Welcome to the 16th Annual Alabama Writers Symposium!
April 25-27, 2013

Literary Alabama is a patchwork of writers and poets, different threads and fabrics that seem random and unconnected, put together in a way that is beautiful, whole, and uniquely our own. The 2013 Alabama Writers Symposium pays tribute to the stunning variety of Alabama literature. From the homespun elegance of Rick Bragg’s memoir to the edginess of Lila Quintero Weaver’s graphic novel, from Cassandra King’s Southern-drawl fiction to Adam Vines’s quietly powerful poetry, the scope of both style and experience are evident. Enjoy the sophistication and the comfort of the Alabama literary quilt at what many call Alabama’s literary family reunion.

2013 Authors & Scholars:
Rick Bragg, Chantel Acevedo, Marlin Barton, Kirk Curnutt, Anita Miller Garner, Nancy Dorman-Hickson, Peter Huggins, Tom Kimmel, Cassandra King, Jay Lamar, Lisa Graves Minor, Don Noble, Wendy Reed, Gay Talese, Jeanie Thompson, Adam Vines, Sue Walker, Lila Quintero Weaver, Margaret Wrinkle and more

Thank you to all who helped us celebrate the 15th annual Alabama Writers Symposium April 26-28, 2012.
The weekend was a great success.
We were all honored by the surprise visit from Nelle Harper Lee at the April 26 luncheon held at the Monroeville Community House. It was an unforgettable moment to see George Landegger present Ms. Lee with her own Harper Lee Award. Thank you Ms. Lee for making our 15th anniversary event such a memorable occasion! Pictures from the event are posted on our Facebook page.

Author Mary McDonagh Murphy detailed the event for The Daily Beast. Read the full story at The Daily Beast.
