SPORTS CAMPS (Monroeville Campus)

§  Lady Eagle Basketball Camp · $75 · Ages 8 to 17 · June 9-11 · 9 am 1 pm

Participants will focus on the development of fundamental skills such as shooting, passing and ball handling. A variety of games, relays, contests and competitions will also be held for the participants.

§  Eagle Baseball Camp · $50 · Ages 12 and under · June 9-10 · 9 am 1 pm

This camp is designed to provide individual instruction in many of the basic fundamentals that it takes to play the game of baseball successfully. Campers should bring their own glove, cap, cleats and running shoes.

§  Eagle Basketball Camp · $75 · Ages 8 to 17 · June 16-18 · 9 am 1 pm

Participants will focus on the development of fundamental skills such as shooting, passing and ball handling. A variety of games, relays, contests and competitions will also be held for the participants.

§  Softball Camp · $40 for one day or $100 for 3 days · Ages 8 to 17 · June 16-18 · 9 am 1 pm

These camps are designed to provide individual instruction in many of the basic fundamentals that it takes to play the game of softball successfully. Campers should bring their own glove, cap, cleats and running shoes. Limited to 25 participants.

§  Twirling Camp · $35 · June 25-26 · Grades K5 2nd · 8 am 10 am · Grades 3rd 6th · 10:30 am 12:30 pm ·

Grades7th andup · 3 pm – 5pm

Training will include the basic fundamentals of twirling as well as advanced tricks for the experienced twirlers in a fun and safe environment. Participants must bring their own baton. Those who pre-register by June 18 will receive a free t-shirt.

End of camp performance will be on June 26 at 5:30 pm in the ASCC Gym.

§  Cheer Camp · $40 · Ages 4 to 12 · July 8-9 · 9 am 12 pm

Training will include cheers, dances, jumps, stunts, and gymnastics in a fun and safe environment. Participants learn cheerleading stances, arm & hand movements, a variety of cheers from start to finish, and more. Those who pre-register by July 1 will receive a free t-shirt. End of camp performance will be on July 9 at 12:00 in the ASCC Gym.

§  Tennis Camp · $40 · July 15-16 · Ages 8 to 12 · 9 am 11 am · Ages 13 to 17 · 1 pm-3 pm

These camps are designed to provide individual instruction in many of the basic fundamentals that it takes to play the game of tennis successfully. (A variety of games, relays, contests, and competitions will also be held for the participants.) Participants should bring their own racket and wear comfortable clothing and tennis shoes. Limited to 25 students per class.

§  Gymnastics Camp · $60 · July 22-23 · Ages vary

o BeginnersClass · Ages 5 to 10 · 10am– 12 pm

This class will focus on strength and flexibility to those children who do not have much experience in gymnastics. Skills taught will include rolls, cartwheels, back bends, splits, etc. Limited to 15 students.

o Advanced Class · Pre-requisiteofbackwalkover skill · 1 pm – 3 pm

Students in the advanced class of gymnastics will learn higher levels of gymnastics skills. Skills taught will include walk overs, back hand springs, back tucks, aerials, tumbling passes, etc. Limited to 15 students.

MONROEVILLE CAMPUS CLASSES

§  Paper Making · $15 · Ages 7 to 12 · June 6 · 9 am 12 pm

This workshop is a hands-on experience that demonstrates the significant role that paper has in our everyday life while allowing the student to make their own paper. Students will learn about papermaking, play games related to the paper process, and showcase their new paper making skill. Limited to 25 students.

§  Forensic Science Camp · $15 · Ages 11 and up · June 12-13 · 8:30 am 12 pm

Who did it? Students will use analytical, math and science skills to figure out which Alabama Southern employee committed the imaginary murder of a beloved member of the Alabama Southern community. Limited to 20 students.

§  “Sand and the Medicine Man” · No Cost · Ages 5 to 10 · June 19 · 9 am 12 pm

Students will learn about how Indians used sand in their traditions and will make a sand souvenir to take home. Limited to 10 students.

§  Painting · $20 · June 23 · Ages 5 to 8 · 9 am 11 am

Students will paint a canvas through instruction. The canvases will be sent home with the student as a new piece of artwork for their home. Limited to 15 students.

§  Jewelry Making · $20 · Ages 8 to 12 · June 23 · 1 pm 3 pm

Students will learn to make fashionable jewelry that they can take home and wear. They will be able to show off their creation and have the opportunity to say “I made this.” Limited to 15 students.

§  Spa Day · $20 · Ages 6 to 12 · July 7 · 8 am 1 pm

Come enjoy a day of pampering by our Cosmetology students. Participants will receive a hairstyle, manicure and pedicure. Participants will be transported by an ASCC van to our Thomasville campus to enjoy this experience. Limited to 25 students.

§  DigitalWriting· $25 · July 21-22· Grades1st 4th· 9 am 11 am · Grades 5th and up · 12pm 3pm   

Instructed by Crissy Nettles, digital writing is a form of writing that is not done with pen and paper. Writers are able to connect instantly with an audience, often creating space for collaboration with other readers, writers, and artists who can spur them on to continue writing long after this class is completed. If participants have their own laptap, iPad or iPhone, they are encouraged to bring, however computers will be provided for the students. Limited to 10 students.

THOMASVILLE CAMPUS CLASSES

§  Spa Day · $15 · Ages 6 to 12 · June 9 · 9 am 12 pm

Come enjoy a day of pampering by our Cosmetology students. Participants will receive a hairstyle, manicure and pedicure. Limited to 25 students.

GILBERTOWN CAMPUS CLASSES

Kids’ Police Academy Description: Become an honorary police officer after completing the Academy! Have fun learning what police men and women do to serve and protect our communities. Explore the technology they use, and how they use it to keep us safe!

Kids’ Firefighter Academy Description: Become an honorary firefighter after completing the Academy! Learn all about the equipment firefighters use, how they train to respond to fires, and explore the fire trucks!

Cupcake Creations! Description: Go wild decorating cupcakes! We provide the cupcakes, icing, and decorations. You provide the imagination and appetite!

When: Thursday, June 12

Time:  9:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m.

Cost:   $15

Cheer Camp Description: Training will include cheers, dances, jumps, stunts, and gymnastics in a fun and safe environment. End of camp performance will be on last class day at 11:00 in the Amphitheatre behind Alabama Southern Campus.

Ages: 6-10

Fishin’ Fun! Description: Students will hear from the expert all about fishing gear, casting, retrieving, setting the drag, setting the hook, and playing the fish. They will also learn about fish habitats and the different species of fish available in Choctaw County. They will apply their new-found skills on the second day when they go to a local pond to “wet their hooks!”
